Many universities will superscore, meaning they’ll look at your best math score on any date and your best reading and writing score on any date, and combine them for a superscore. If your university superscores, then taking it many times can help.
But remember you must balance studying for the SAT or ACT with devoting time for school and extracurricular activities. So that places a limitation as well.
For athletes, NCAA just requires you to reach your required score and isn’t concerned how many times you’ve taken the test.
To avoid taking the tests too many times, take a diagnostic to gauge your initial score, rather than taking the actual test.
